No, EPN connects families with services available in our community and has a network of Postpartum Navigators who offer parents support.

Birth Doulas are non-medical caregivers who provide physical, emotional, and informational support to birthing families during pregnancy, labor, and birth, and in the postpartum period, regardless of birth preferences. Traditional Health Care (THW) birth doulas are covered by Oregon and Washington Medicaid. Individual doulas take various insurance plans.

Postpartum Doulas provide in-home emotional, physical, and informational support during the postpartum period, including breastfeeding assistance, newborn care education, light housekeeping, meal preparation, and helping with older children.

There is a separate training and certification process for birth and postpartum doulas.

Postpartum Navigators are doulas and community health workers who support families in planning for the postpartum time and through the first three months postpartum.

They meet with parents during pregnancy to make a plan for having rest, support, and care.

After the baby arrives, they are available over text, in addition to monthly check-in meetings.

Some parents prefer home visits, while others choose to keep care fully virtual. Navigators help parents feel less alone, connect them with resources, information, and support as questions or challenges arise.

Your insurance covers your prenatal care, birth, and postpartum visits with your provider.

It also covers lactation services with an IBCLC.

Oregon nd Washington Medicaid, Moda PEBB, Moda OEBB, and Kaiser cover doula services, which can be layered with postpartum navigation.

Medicaid members can also access a food benefit.
